about
ver international
Officially founded in 2018, VER International’s mission is to help break cycles of poverty among the most vulnerable of Honduras through programs in Education, Health and Hygiene, and Entrepreneurship. VER means “to see” in Spanish and the heart of what the nonprofit aims to do is allow those trapped in poverty to begin to see a better and brighter future, to see beyond their seemingly hopeless situation, to see themselves as capable and able to contribute to their community, and to see themselves created in the image of God. VER is also an acronym that stands for: validate, educate, restore, which are our core values. VER International is an Alabama-based 501c3 organization. It is our honor to partner with incredible donors and volunteers to work toward a better Honduras.
About the Founders
Founders Kristen and Natán Martínez dreamed of a way to help vulnerable Honduran families break generational cycles of poverty. Natán grew up in rural Honduras as the son of a pastor and hard-working parents who tended to various micro-businesses. He attributes much of his desire to start a nonprofit in his own country to being a recipient of help from missionaries and organizations when he was a child. This financial and moral support was formative and played a key role in the trajectory of his life, leading him to become a pastor and missionary himself. Kristen knew in elementary school that she was being led to other countries as a missionary and she considers her first short-term trip to Honduras in 2004 confirmation that it would be her forever home. Not until nine years later when their paths crossed would Natán and Kristen begin to dream of what would become VER International.
